Ultrarelativistic particle collisions.
We present results from numerical solution of the Einstein field equations describing the head-on collision of two solitons boosted to ultrarelativistic energies. We show, for the first time, that at sufficiently high energies the collision leads to black hole formation, consistent with hoop-conjecture arguments. This implies that the nonlinear gravitational interaction between the kinetic ener...
متن کاملUltrarelativistic Positronium Production in Collisions of High Energy Electrons and Laser Photons
We consider the production of ultrarelativistic parapositronium and orthopositronium atoms in collisions of high energy electrons (Ee > 0.5 TeV) and laser photons. Our results demonstrate the opportunity of intensive positronium beam formation with Lorentz–factor γ ∼ 10 using laser beam conversion on high energy electrons at the future ee Linear Accelerators.
متن کاملStrangeness in Ultrarelativistic Nuclear Collisions
Production of strangeness was among the first observables studied in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions in the search for quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The transition into plasma phase was expected to facilitate strangeness production and lead to its enhanced abundance [1]. It is namely rather costly to produce strangeness in a hadronic system; the lowest threshold which is about 530 MeV above th...
متن کاملCosmic Physics: the High Energy Frontier
Cosmic rays have been observed up to energies 10 times larger than those of the best particle accelerators. Studies of astrophysical particles (hadrons, neutrinos and photons) at their highest observed energies have implications for fundamental physics as well as astrophysics. Thus, the cosmic high energy frontier is the nexus to new particle physics. This overview discusses recent advances bei...
متن کاملHigh Energy Nuclear Collisions
Highlights of the results from ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at CERN-SPS are reviewed. In particular, I discuss how the experimental results indicate that a collective strongly interacting system has been produced, and what are the implications towards the Quark Gluon Plasma. The physical ideas behind measuring certain observables are introduced. The future program of high energy nucle...
